"Graham is our Mariner expert and has the manuals, but I'll try. You checked the safety switch on the control box?
Lets remove the wire from the kill switch and check for spark. Remove cowl and find switchbox/powerpack. Remove black/yellow wire, it grounds the ign to shut engine off, check for spark with engine lowered down.
this might help

if you have spark its a wire/key/kill switch problem"

"See, you don't need me

The 4 cylinder 40 came with a few different stator configurations, all a little different, but yes, definately go an disconnect any black/yellow wires you find. And watch for the mercury switch. On at least one model it has black/yellow going to it and only a black leaving (which can make it difficult to spot where to disconnect).

There is no posted "ohm" specs for any of the possible stators on this model - merc recommends all tests be done with a DVA.

However, simple checks for continuity can still give you a quick indication of whether or not an entire winding is shot.

If you need to test beyond the kill circuit, you will have to determine what stator system you have there. This model came with both 9 and 16 amp black or 16 amp red."

"The race was kinda uneventful

"The race was kinda uneventful but did see the one and only "wreck" - car hit the barrier right in front of us (we were row 18, right in line with Jimmie Johnson's pit) - but the weather was great and the beer was cold.

Got to watch all the race leaders run out of gas on the last 2 laps.....

There's a message there for all the boaters - start heading back to shore when your fuel is getting low - you can't simply be "pushed off the track" if you are in the middle of some big water....

P.S. - I drank your beer too (before it got warm) - a tall boy - and it was goooood

"Checked stator yellow to yell

"Checked stator yellow to yellow reistance. .4, repair manual states 9-16 amp should read .16-.19. Gonna remove stator to have it checked at shop. Only two yellow and black wires, neither related to kill switch, which I still cannot locate. Closest thing I can find is toggle switch behind key switch, RUN - OFF, in run position."
