"Hey guys....I'm not getting spark to any plugs. Trying to check the Stator out...I have 4 wires going into the Power pack 2 oranges and 2 browns. I checked voltage across the browns (outside) and get 168 VAC and I only get about 15 VAC across the oranges. Nothing is shorted to ground. Am I supposed to get one or two sets of AC voltage going into power pack? All info appreciated.

have you checked for spark wit

have you checked for spark with a spark tester?

you should be jumping a 1/2" air gap....

you need to be checking the two wire conector leaving the pack going to the charge coil.

unplug the rubber connector and check "A" to ground and "B" to ground. no voltage should be present.

now check between "A" & "B" you need 150+ VAC...

check both sides. none of the four coils are Firing...

Hopefully Morten will see you post.... He is pretty sharp.

"Most likely the optical sensor under the timing-wheel on top of the flywheel.
No special tools needed, but the timingwheel has a bad habbit of getting stuck and breake when removed.
May be tested without removing, but the special tool:'ignition analyzer' is rather expensive!

You may do an ohm-test of the stator to check for continuity and no ground-shorts."

The wire coming from the stator has 4 wires going into the power pack. Is it correct to think of these as pairs and should I see 2 separate sets of AC voltage?

I did an ohm-test of the stator and across the brown (or maybe grey) got about 1.1 k if remember correctly. This is where I read 168 VAC.

Across the Orange I only read 56 ohm and basically do not get an VAC reading here. Is this correct?

"According to my manual, your resistance readings are about right, but you should be getting a minimum of 250 volts on the charge coil(brown wires), and a minimum of 35 volts on the power coil(orange wires) when cranking. I'd also recommend having your optical sensor checked, you can buy a special tool for around $200, but a boat mechanic can probably check it for you for considerably less, or you can just buy a new one, and change it out, it'll run you around $75 or so, which is probably about what a mechanic will charge you anyway. But if you aren't getting ANY voltage across the orange pair of wires from the stator, I'd say that's your problem. Also, to get accurate readings, you need a peak reading voltmeter, but you can buy an adaptor which will fit most any good voltmeter. Oh, and you should be reading DC voltage....not AC. Good luck."
