Stator Test 40 hp Mecury

I tested the stator on 40 hp mercury by swapping blue with blue/white on switch box. Spark changes fron 1 and 2 cylinders to 3 and 4. Does this mean stator is bad or could the problem be coming from the trigger? Original problem is no fire on 3 and 4 cylinders.

http://www.outboardignition.com/page39.asp see this chart for stator, trigger and coil testing by ohms. Check the trigger first. "No spark output at two spark plugs usually indicates a bad trigger." "No spark at four spark plugs usually indicates bad stator, switchbox or stop switch." Per 2002 Merc. manual trouble shooting guide.

HUH? There should only be blue and red on a 40.
blue with blue/white is a 6 cylinder system.
