stator question

hello
i have 1985 mercury 50 horse. i have to change out the switch box. i now have a red stator with a green -white and white green and black wire coming out of it. the wires go to an adapter that changes to a blue and blue-white wire. no red or red-white wire. should i also purchase a stator with all the proper wires? it seems that the spark is hitting #2 and # 4 at the wrong time, so i am asuming that it is the switch box. what do you think?

What was the iniitial problem? Did someone rewire it? Did you ohm the stator and trigger?

i bought the boat from a guy that said it ran good up to his last outing. he said he could not get it to plane. i compressioned checked it and it had 145 psi in all cylinders. so i fiqured it would not have much wrong with it except dirty carbs and bad fuel. when i got it home i bought a manual and started all the tests. i changed out the water pump and cleaned the carbs. the stator is 784 on green-w and 789 on white- gr. the trigger checked out o.k. also.
