Stator Part Number Needed

I have a 1979 175hp V6 Mariner. My serial number doesn't work at marine engine.com. I want to replace my stator because I have done everthing else to try to get my engine to run good instead of OK. I would like to fine a NOS stator and save some money. Can anybody give me a good part number to look for, and or point me to a good deal on the stator I need

Yes, I was going to suggest the CDI part as well. Comes in about 60 bucks cheaper than OEM and I have had good luck with them. In some cases I prefer the CDI parts to OEM - find the wiring superior (thinking of some of the tiny gauge trigger wires that Merc produced)..

That should have the 9 amp stator.

Merc's OEM number would be 398-5454A7 - list's upwards of $260 (10% less at some on-line Merc part sources)

CDI part CDI174-5456 is the most economical (this site sells it for under 170 bucks) or

Sierra part 18-5871 which goes for about $200.

So you have options. Personally, I would go with the CDI stator. Their "stuff" is decent quality...

Here is the Mercury Stator 398-5454A7 on PartsPak.com.

Here is the sierra stator 18-5857 (it is showing as the replacement for 398-5454A7. I don't believe the sierra number given in a past post was not the correct number)

The CDI stator is the cheapest. I like their stuff the best also, so this is a win-win. They also have good tech support. Good luck with your repair.
