"Hi folks,I'm still fiddling with my beautiful merc800/1969,

Wires,2x yellow,are a little hard and insulation broken.I put heat shrink over them but as I was examining the stator I noticed two hairline cracks in the enamel. Would this affect it's charging ability? I tried to put the ohm meter on it but

I'm not 100% sure what I'm reading on the meter. I'm one of those people who need to see it done. Thank you for all previous help and future help"

"I dont know if this will help you or if it applies to you but you can kind of ask around about it. If there is cracks in the enamel, maybe when it gets hot enough, the wires start to separate and the connection opens up. Once it cools down the circuit is back to being closed."
 
Check with OHMETER yellow to y

Check with OHMETER yellow to yellow---report the #'s---Then check one yellow to ground and report #'s.

"Ok folks ,thank you very much, The #'s I got were 1.5, reading right to left on the ohmeter,but because I haven't a clue how to use one of these meters,these #'s are probably as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike.That's the #'s I got yesterday before I posted,won't be able to check yellow to ground until to morrow,too wet.Manual talks about blue and white,blue ,red and white,red.All I can see is the two yellow from the stator to the rectifier which is the only wires attached to the stator, Do I need glasses? Or am I missing something?Thanks again for all the help."
 
You do not need glasses at all

You do not need glasses at all! The correct manual for your motor is what you really need!!!!

,the stator sends the needle all the way to the left,reading 0,yellow to ground ,needle does not move at all,new stator?"
