" I have a Mariner V6 200 hp 1986. The motor runs "great" out of the water. When I get my boat in the water it only runs to 1700 rpm. First i think it was a fuel problem so I rebuild the carb and looking at reeds when I was at that side on the engine. Next step was the electrical and compression. Compression relative good on all six 120 psi. Then I checked electrical. Triggers ok , Coil ok , spark on all plugs, have hard to se if it weak or strong. When i check the stator gainst the manual I found that I have some different ohm value.

Beacuse stator is very expensive in sweden, I want to be sure that´s the problem. "

" Martensu,

If you really want to be sure, one thing to take a look at is the multi-meter; I diagnosed a problem I had with a stator based on my multi-meter and it turned out later that the multi-meter was shot, even though some readings looked good and only one was bad. The other thing to consider is actually getting a spark tester, that may give you a better idea as to how "good" the spark is.

" Martensu,

I finally finished my boat motor problems. Again 175 Mariner with similar problems. I changed the switch boxes, wasn't the problem. I then changed the stator was not the problem. I put on new spark plugs, new wires, new filter. Wasn't the problem. Turned out my problem was in throttle cam. It was loose and caused the spring inside to unhook. Check that. Just incase try accelerating in gear underload and pump your priming ball while you do this. It could be fuel starvation. "
