Stator interchange 1985 with 1989

"Wondering about using a 1989

"Wondering about using a 1989 stator in an 1985 85 hp. I can get a good 1989 stator locally but I see the connectors are different. I can crimp my connectors from the 1985 on it, but will a 1989 stator fit and function on my 1985 motor.

"Norm, here's the short and long answer to your question. Should it work - according to the guys at Standard Magneto - yes.

The stators for 83-85 models had plastic connectors on the end. The 86 on didn't. Both stators are identical except for the connectors and both can be used on 2, 3, and 4 cylinder models - but they are different stock numbers."
