starving for fuel...plaese help!!! 1979 115 hp

hello, i have a 1979 115hp inline 6cyl. motor has been running great for past 6 months. all of a sudden i was heading back to the ramp after being out all day and it started to loose power. i was running at about 4500 rpms and it bogged dowtn like it was starving for fuel. i backed off the throtle to 3000-3200 rpms and it ran fine. after waiting 10 seconds i gunned it and it took off like normal for about 5 seconds and bogged down again. so to make a long story short it runs fine at mid throtle and below but runs out of fuel at wide open throtle. i have rebuilt the fuel pump, changed all fuell lines, new primmer ball and it still has this problem. checked the fuel pickup in my 9 gal. portable tank and found a air leak in it. fixed that issue and thought for sure that was the problem but took it on the water today and the problem still exists. at wide open throtle the primmmer ball is soft and i can pump it and it picks up rpms, but i cant pump it fast enough to allow for wide open throtle.

if anybody has iny suggestions that can help me i would greatly appreciate it..

I aasume your fuel system has no fuel filter?? Sounds like you picked up a piece of crap in your carbs. I would suggest you do a rebuild on um. Probably time to do that anyway.......

You rebuilt the fuel pump after this problem started and it didn't correct it - or the fuel pump was rebuilt a while ago and this problem started recently?

i rebuilt the pump after the problem came up. also i have a filter in the pickup tube itself and when i rebuilt the pump there was no trash in that filter either.

replace fuel filter
clean the carbs
try another fuel line, the bulb to tank end
Sounds like youve got air in the line or dirt in the tank
borrow another tank and fuel line assy. from tank to motor
remove the fuel lines and remove the connectors, blow out the lines with compressed air, blow out the connectors

Good luck!!!
you sure you have the primer bulb installed the right direction?
something is restricting the fuel flow, these things cover everything from tank to engine

I had the same problem on my 80 hp motor all new hoses, bulb,filter,etc. except the quick disconnect on the engine,bypassed that and went straight to the fuel pump with my fuel line problem solved,might work for you as well.Just a thought,

Yes, check your fuel connections, I've had more than one old connector suck air when an O ring dried up or the fittings got loose.
I just replace them every couple of years as a matter of maintenance now.
