Starts hard after shutting down.

Hi. newbie here. A few months back in purchased a 1997 bowrider with a 3.0 mercruiser engine. The compression is a bout125 psi per cyl. After i run it for awhile on the water, I'll stop for awhile for lunch. when I go to restart it, it cranks for awhile before it fires again. It has a carb. any ideals what it could be? Thanks in advance.

Too much heat in the engine compartment can cook the fuel in the carb bowl. Do you run the engine w/the blower running all the time; you should. Let the engine idle a few minutes after a hard run to cool the manifold.

Also check the choke what is it doing ?

is that a regular carbed engine or does it have the TKS option?
