" i just bought a 1997 johnson

" i just bought a 1997 johnson 200 venom and am having major problems starting the engine. I had a 525 cca battery that would turn the engine but not start it. I jumped it off by connecting jumper cables to the trolling batteries. i thought that i did not have enough cca's so i bought an 800 cca battery, but am still having the same problem. the motor will turn over, but will not start. I had the compression checked before i bought it and each plug was 90-92. please help!
any assstance would be greatly appreciated! "

"I retired years before that engine came into existence, however trouble shooting most problems remain consistent.

Is the engine carbureted or fuel injected? If it has carburetors, and it has been sitting for some time, the carburetors are most likely fouled and will require removing, cleaning, and rebuilding.

Have you checked the spark? With the s/plugs removed, the spark should jump a 7/16" gap with a violent strong blue lightning like flame. Does it?

Are you familiar with the normal starting procedure.... pumping the fuel primer bulb, using the inward presure of the key to initiate the fuel primer solenoid (replaces the choke)?

We'll need more in detail to go on other than just the compression.
