I have a inline 6 250ci 165hp. It is installed and ready to fire up. My intermediate housing end cap has a hose fitting. I want to run the engine before my skipjack hits the water. I also want to be sure my outdrive waterpump and water cooling system is also working. What is the best way to run the engine and check outdrive? My guess is to hook a hose to the end cap hose fitting and get a plastic garbage can,set my outdrive into it. Then fill the garbage can with a constant supply of water along with a constant flow of water to the end cap fitting. I will remove my prop so I can shift my outdrive to make sure forward and reverse are working. Any suggestions other than what I plan to do. I have put alot of blood sweat and tears into this and would hate to damage my engine or outdrive. I have a thermal heat gun to monitor the engine block temp while running, not sure if my temp gauge is still good. Any help would be much appreciated, as there are alot of nice folks on this thread who offer help and a world of knowledge.
