"had this same problem with my older four winns.
the boat had been sitting a couple of years...anyways long story short...get a buddy with you, with a hammer (i used a small sledge hammer, so i didnt have to swing very hard) and while you turn the key to the start position, have him lightly tap the solenoid or starter....see if it cranks. with ours, the solenoid was just sticking a little after sitting so long I imagine...might just need a little persuasion. light taps do it."

"Getting +12 volts at the s terminal on the starter solenoid...i guess i should pull the starter,and clean the conections,I see a lot of rust...I know how to remove the starter solenoid but in my search for a replacement a slave solenoid always shows up ..do I have to buy a starter if only the starter solenoid is bad?"
 
not in my case you didnt have

not in my case you didnt have to anyways...just bought the solenoid at any auto or marine parts store. shouldnt be more than 20 bucks. I was buying for a 3.0 merc though...
 
Good news....my starter is ok.

Good news....my starter is ok....just need a solenoid....been to several auto stores...they tried to sell me a solenoid for an auto...but I remembered reading in the Soloc Manual..do not substitute an automobil-type relay ...it is not sealed and gasoline fumes can be ignited upon starting the engine.will go to a Marine store tomorrow...thanks guys for the help
