Starting Mercury 25 after a long lay off

I have a 1986 Mercury 25 elect

I have a 1986 Mercury 25 electric start. The motor has not been started in about a year. Any special procedures for starting.

"Mark, if it was prepped properly for storage and stored indoors you may be able to simply hook up the gas tank and either give it a pull (or hook up the battery and hit the starter)...

If however, it has been hanging on the back of a boat outside, I would inspect the wires and hoses for any obvious signs of damage. Replace the impeller and lower gear oil - and throw in a new pair of spark plugs.

Then try turning the flywheel by hand, just to make sure that nothing has seized.

If all seems ok then with some new gas, give it try..."
