starting amps?

a new push button starting switch for a 9.9 '80 is expensive. looking to get a generic. what amp rating is needed to avoid using a solenoid? i have tried to post this 3 times and dont know if it is getting through or not, cant find it.
 
you are getting thru but noone knows enough details to help you...whats broken on the motor?...are you saying you have a electric start 9.9 that has a solenoid and you want to bypass it?
 
if all you have is a defective switch why do you want to replace solenoid? i am not familiar with this engine but i am trying to get something started here and get you some help...
 
There is no solenoid on the original factory installation.---The option is to find a heavy duty switch or use a push button and a small solenoid ( salvaged from say a Japanese outboard ) to do this job.
 
Have you tried NAPA to see if they have anything ? BRP only wants $195.00 for it. You may end up doing what Racerone suggested.
