I have a 1990, 60 hp Johnson. The starter is bad so I was going to replace it. As I was taking it off, I noticed there was a third bolt located right behind the carbs. How do you get to this bolt? If I take the noise suppressor off the carbs, will there be an access hole there? Please help.
Thanks,

Remove the airbox cover and remove the airbox base. Now you have enough access.

Check the kork gaskets now, as they could easy fail and couse a lot of mess in the engine well as well as the motorwell in the boat.

Thanks Lenard. I had assumed that was what I was going to have to do. I was just looking for an easier way. I'm having to work on my boat while it's in my boathouse on the lift which is not ideal working conditions.

Thanks again Lenard. Got the new starter installed with no problems. When I removed the airbox cover, I noticed the cork gasket was not in place at the bottom of the airbox cover. I made sure it was in place when I put it all back together. Cranks like a charm.
