Starter Wire

"I have twin Crusader 270'

"I have twin Crusader 270's in my boat (1988). When working on the starboard engine a few weeks ago, I noticed that the insulation on one of the wires (smaller diamter wire) going to the starter was melted (leaving the wire exposed on top of the engine). Does anyone know the wire guage so that I can replace it?"

That may be a tough question BUT I THINK....mine is either a 10 or a 12

I looked at spool wire today a

I looked at spool wire today at BW and thought the 10 guage was about the same size. I may cut a piece from the boat and take it to the store to match the size before I purchase anything. Probably can't go wrong going heavier.

I'd suggest you find out what made the wire get hot before changing it otherwise you'll probably be redoing the job.

If i remember right, RED is battery connection, usually direct, ORANGE is from the alternator, and the YELLOW/RED tracer is the starter solenoid circuit."
