Starter wheel engaged

I have a 2005 75 hp E-tech that when after starting the starter motor bendix is constantly engaged and spinning. Any ideas. I thought selenoid or ignition switch.

Unless the engine starts to crank over when you turn the key to the ON position, the problem is normally and usually a sticking solenoid.

Solenoids are usually caused to be in this condition due to being actuated via a failing battery, bad main cables, loose or dirty connections, etc... in short, the voltage reaching the solenoid is low and arcing results within the solenoid, in turn resulting in the inner heavy duty contacts ending up in a welded like condition that causes the contacting parts to stick, jam together.

due to being actuated via a failing battery
Thank you Joe, I have a solenoid coming, I did have a bad battery I have replaced. As you stated "due to being actuated via a failing battery" leads me to be confident to this diagnosis.

Very good Prisca... Keep us updated in case of any possible continuing problem along those same lines... or future ones of a different nature.
