I will start at the beginning, even if it is overkill......

Motor size and model in Title of thread.....The ignition switch had been sticking in the "start" position. Buddy borrowed the boat and failed to realize that the starter was engaged the whole time he was driving around. Battery overheated, and motor stopped working. I traced out the wiring and found a blown 20 amp fuse on the motor. Replaced the fuse, and then power trim on counsole worked again, and motor started. Key switch appeared to stick in "start" position so turned off key switch and removed key. Motor still continued to try to "start". Removed key switch, and installed new switch. Motor continues to try and start when battery is re-connected. Removed new key switch so that nothing is connecting all 6 wires going to key switch.....As soon as you re-connect battery, motor tries to start......with no key switch in place!

Any ideas?

remove the yellow pick wire to the stater solenoid..if it still fails you have a bad solenoid(probably welded points)...if it dont fail then you have a short in the wiring...concentrate on the yellow wire....it has probably shorted to a hot wire...
