starter not engaging

I have twin evinrudes 225, 2000. My starter spins but does not engage the fly wheel. I have ruled out batteries, power switches, and the starter itself. Selonoid is relatively new (1 year old). Any suggestions? The starter will engage after an extended rest. The problem appears after attempting several starts in a row. The other engine startes just fine.

Time to replace the starter, it's worn.

Negative. I replaced the starter with the same results. Took it off and returned it. I replaced the batteries and power switches. The selnoid is 1 year old. I am able to jump the engine and by pass the selnoid with out complication.

Well since the starter is new, it's time to check your cables. If the starter spins up and is not shooting the gear into the flywheel it is a low voltage issue. Look for a voltage drop.

Battery cables likely defective / corroded.

Thanks for the suggestions.... looks like a bad ground turned out to be the culprit! So simple lol
