"could anyone please tell me why my starter motor sometimes spins but doesn't engage,when i tap on the shaft of the starter I can get it to work again.........also should there be any kind of lubricant on the shaft???thanks"

"Clean the bendix gear assy where it rides on the sprial with WD-40. That area must be clean.

Grease on that area collects dirt and results in binding, sticking, etc."
