"On my 1982 454, I recently tu

"On my 1982 454, I recently turned the key switch to start the engine and heard the starter motor continue to run. Only turning off the battery switch to the engine stopped it. I replaced the key switch and it happened again. What is the cause? Could the starter relay or the starter moter solenoid or both be the problem? What is the purpose of the starter relay in the small junction box at the rear of the engine?

"Your starter solenoid (relay) is bad. The relay lets the high amp draw from the batteries travel to the starter, your key switch is very low amp draw to close the (normally open) starter relay only. You would need a very large guage wire if you only had a starter switch to feed the starter!"
 
I recently replaced the starte

I recently replaced the starter on Crusader. Haven't
cranked it in awhile. I went to crank it and it sounded like engine was barley turning over. I continued and the battery terminal began to heat up smoke.Any ideas?
