starter and solenoid

I have a 1980 Johnson v4 115hp. I need help with the wiring from the motor to the solenoid to the starter. I payed a guy to put a new starter on my boat but all he did was unhook all the wires. I need all the help I can get.... thanks
 
So, what did he unhook? Do you really mean ALL the wires? The solenoid and starter circuitry has been pretty well standardized over many years. Generically speaking, the + battery cable goes to one of the big nuts on the solenoid, and a short cable goes between the other big nut and the starter. A smaller wire comes from the key switch and goes to either one of the small nuts. Another small wire goes between the other small nut and either is grounded or goes to a safety switch.
 
yep he took off all of them off. but I think I found some of the wires. at the bottom of the solenoid I put a big red wire to the starter and and at the top of the solenoid the wires from the battery. I put a black wire on one of the small post but I cant find a wire for the other small post I found a white wire in the motor case but I cant see were it came from.. thanks again for the reply back I need all the help I can get. wade
