Start without choke?

My evinrude 9.5 seems to be working fine, but I noticed I don't have to choke it even for a cold start, As a matter of fact, if I choke it, it won't start, is that bad? Feel like this engine needs a lot of air to run.

So, does it run fine once started? It certainly is not normal to cold-start without choke, but I wouldn't lie aawake nights worrying about it if everything else is normal. Those motors are notorious for smoke inhalation, but again if it runs fine (on a boat, on the lake), don't worry.

Thanks! yeah the engine does seem to work ok. Except it's a bit hard to get it start when hot, sometimes takes 6-7 pulls, but not sure if that's related to the choke anyway.
