hi all. im new to this great site & i have a problem. i have a evinrude 75hp 1980 super sport & it starts very well but when i put it in to gear it stalls ? if i give it some throttle & put it in to gear as the revs are falling & then open her up away she goes. can some one please help as it is a bit embarrassing in the harbour & dangerous.compression is good on all three the carbs have been cleaned. when out to sea she goes like a dream. but stalls every time i put her in to gear.
engin no E75ERLCSA.

"this could be quit a few thin

"this could be quit a few things,..or just the nature of the eng you have....i would first, try to idle it up a bit, unless of course its idling high allready...then,on to the carbs,..u could have a clogged, slow spd idle passage,..eng idling at correct temp?..not too hot or too cold?..do a spark test,at cranking spd to make sure u r not dropping a cylinder,ck ign coils for cracks."

"another,rare possibility,is l

"another, rare possibility,is lower unit binding,..ck ur lower unit oil,..water or metal flakes, burnt oil ,milky oil,..all signs of problems."

thanks very much for info.

"Sounds like your idle is to l

"Sounds like your idle is to low, runs fine on muffs but when in the water you lose rpms due to back pressure."

"What are the compression read

"What are the compression readings of all cylinders?

With spak plugs removed, spark should jump a 7/16" gap with a strong blue lightning like flame..... a real SNAP! Does it? (The 7/16" gap is important).

If the above two areas are as they should be, double check the carburetors to make sure the jets are the proper sizes.

On a flushette, the idle rpm should be 1000 rpm for a 20" shaft engine and 1200 rpm for a 25" shaft engine. The idle will drop to normal when in the water.
