Stalls at dock, Won't restart

Hello Everyone,

I'm hoping someone smarter than myself can point me in the right direction before calling the boat guy. I have a 91 Thompson 210 fisherman. Mercruiser 4.3 liter with thunderbolt ignition and alpha one drive. The last 2 times I have taken it out it has started and idled, runs fine, gets on plane, trolls, rides back in and when I get in to the dock it will stumble and die. Especially when I have to go from drive to reverse right at the dock and will not restart. It will crank and crank but will not refire. This happened most recently yesterday afternoon. I haven't had the chance to pull it back out yet and try to restart it. I do know that it needs shift cables or a major adjustment because sometimes it will drop from 1500 RPMs to neutral. Carb issue maybe? Any ideas on what it could be could be would be appreciated... Thanks for reading!

Is there a test procedure? I know a brand new switch is unavailable because they no longer produce them. Are the ones on eBay reliable or is it a risk buying one? Thank you for your prompt reply btw.

I'd say you dont need the switch....more likely a shift cable replacement/adjustment based on your original post...that said, your source regarding availability should be questioned...

I'd be inclined to monitor the switch and see if it is contributing to the condition...and proceed accordingly...there is no replacement for real troubleshooting...

Ayuh,..... I agree,.... If the lower shift cable hasn't been replaced in the last 5 or 10 years, That's the problem, not the switch,....
