It goes soft and when i squeeze it again till it;s hard it runs for about 4 mins and stalls again, should the squeeze bulb stay hard at all times???
I've recently changed the the squeeze bulb

Thanx

No need for the manual fuel pump ( AKA primer bulb ) to stay rock hard.----------------Look into issues with fuel pump or crankcase pulses that drive the motor's fuel pump.

Please excuse my ignorance as i know very little about boat engines,

Have the fuel pump diaphragm replaced and all should be well.

Jeff

PS: Are you sure the vent on the tank was open? That would do it.

Do yourself a favor.Do a compression/spark test.Just to make sure.
The 150 probably has a built in tank on the boat. There is a vent line that can get clogged(bugs).
The bulb if it goes flat the vent is clogged.Going soft is normal. It's used to pump fuel to the system. Then the pump takes over. It's not strong enough to suck fuel from the tank to the motor.
Like the others say rebuild the fuel pump.
What's the idle?Should be about 750-800rpms in gear and motor warm.

The pulses.Everytime the motor turns over the crankcase system will make a pulse(kinda like an air compressor)it will
make the fuel pump operate. It makes the diaphram suck in and out pushing fuel past the valves in the pump.
Do you have carbs or fuel injection?
Make sure that you include any serial#s or model#s so we know what were working on.
Ethanol is a problem.Look up the problems.J
