"I own a 3 year old Bayliner 2

"I own a 3 year old Bayliner 212 with a mercruiser 5.0 MPI stearndive. The last time out I got a spurious alarms sound, about 3 bleeps every minute or so, engine oil pressure and temperature quite normal and no unusual noises from the engine itself. the oil levels were also normal. Any tips on identifying the problem appreciated."

"How about drive oil reservoir

"How about drive oil reservoir level?
Newer MPI engines also have a cooling water pressure sensor.
How many hours?
If the alarms continue, I would try a series of tests by disconnecting the individual sensors one at a time, remembering of course to reconnect them once tested. If you find one that stops the chirping, there's your problem. That particular sensor may be bad.
BTW, the water pressure sensor (if equipped) will likely be mounted on or near your PS cooler on the water inlet hose from the sterndrive. If this is the cause is likely means your water pump impeller needs replacing.

"thanks for the advice on disc

"thanks for the advice on disconnecting each device, I will certainly try that over the week-end, only thing I forgot to mention is the alarm only starts after running for about an hour.
Oil drive reservoir ok too, and the cooling pump replaced only three months ago during service. I guess total hours on the engine will not have exceeded 50 hours."

"Don't start disconnecting

"Don't start disconnecting the sensors. The alarm will not stop when a sensor is diconnected. In fact it will do the opposite, it will only set more faults and obscure the actual problem.

There are at least 26 different faults that will set an alarm on your engine. The best thing you can do is find a tech that has a scan tool or laptop to connect to the engine and read the fault history.

"Dave;
So you are saying that

"Dave;
So you are saying that any fault that the ECM picks up will be indicated by the same audio buzzer, right?
In that case for sure the best advice to Raymond is to get the diagnostic done by a Merc dealer as you suggest.
Thanks for the clarification.
