I have a speeditwin which the only serial number is 309065. I am guessing it is a 1965 28HP, however I can not find info on actual year and HP. I live in New Zealand so obviously it is exported here.

Re: Speedtwin year and HP

my book does not show a 28hp for 1965. the last year was 1964. maybe Joe can help you out.

Re: Speedtwin year and HP

Thanks. Joe if you are out there any clues? I have looked all over the motor and can't find any other serial numbers. Could be a 1964 looking at some youtube vids but the cover on the NZ version may be misleading.

Can you tell from the piston size as I have the head off at the moment.

Re: Speedtwin year and HP

Appears to be a 62 model--------------Bore is 2.875" --------Stroke is 2.750"-----------------------35.7 cubic inches.-----weight standad length--a mere 120 lbs.

Re: Speedtwin year and HP

Many thanks - does the book say HP? According to my deteriorating grey matter there is no way to directly convert CI or CC to HP

Cheers

Re: Speedtwin year and HP

62 to 64 were advertized as 28 HP-------------------later it was rated / sold as a 33 HP from 1965 to 1970.

Based on the parts diagrams on this site, there appears to be a slight difference in the hoods from 62 to 63 to 64. The 62 model is showing an emblem on the rear (part # 35) not listed on the 63 motor. The 64 cover doesn't have the applique just behind the Evinrude on the side and has the Evinrude further aft, smaller and inside the v shape applique. Look for a welsh plug on the block with numbers 28202 (62 short shaft), 28203 (62 long shaft), 28302 (63 short), 28303 (63 long), 28402 (64 short) or 28403 ( 64 long).
