I have a 96 Evinrude 115. Abo

I have a 96 Evinrude 115. About once a day the spark plug in the lower right cylinder get smashed in by something. Looks like metal on metal. What could be causing this and what can be done. Thanks

"Erik.... If you're speaking of the lower right cylinder when you're standing in back of the engine, that's #3 cylinder. The spark plug is being smashed by one of two things... either the engine has set up a pre-ignition situation which has resulted in #3 piston melting down, shredding aluminum which is being jamed into that spark plug, or a piston ring has grabbed one of the port openings and broken off part of the ring and probably the piston. But whatever has went wrong, you are now faced with a major overhaul of that powerhead which is expensive. Usually the repairs on that engine (overhaul) would run approximately $1500.00 but depending on the parts needed, and the varying cost of labor, it could be higher or lower. Sorry to be the carrier of sad tidings.

is this the only cure for this problem?i have a 1997 225hp evinrude and the left middle cyl. plug is pushed in you can also so a few dings in the piston

"CB.... Yes, sorry to say, that's the only cure. If you continue to run that engine, it will only be leading to more destruction.
