Joe I have read several of your postings and you seem to know your stuff. I have a problem with a 1973 85 hp evinrude. It was running fine four weeks ago. Put it in the water two weeks and later and it would start and idle but would die when put into gear. Brought it home and cleaned the carbs and replaced a bad fuel line from the pump to the carbs. Took back out and still same problem. I came back and found spark problem, only #1 cylinder firing. found bad stator that was melted and dripping on charging side the local shop told me. Replaced the stator and the rectifier. now I have spark on #1, #2, and #4. #3 still not firing. Crossed #1 and #3 coils and #3 fires and #1 doesn't. Is that a power pack problem?
