"Second request. Apparently go

"Second request. Apparently got someone elses question for my answer. Anyway, what plugs and fuel mixture for 1971 50hp serial #3012248? If I was to get repair manual, would I still need the owners manual? Also need to replace needle valve in upper carb, any suggestions for parts? Thanks. By the way, got my key working and engine started."

"Bill, you can mix at 50:1 &#4

"Bill, you can mix at 50:1 (regular unleaded 86/87 octane) and TCW-3 rated marine two cycle oil.

For plugs, Merc orginally called for Delco AC V-40-FFM's you can also use NGK BUHW's or Champion L76V's (all surface gap plugs).

The needle valve by itself is not longer available from Merc, although it is contained in the rebuild kit (merc part number 1395-92621) - just don't be shocked if a dealer wants 75 bucks for the kit.

A repair manual and an owners manual are two different things completely. The repair manual (Seloc's etc) will tell you what/how to fix but will not give you information on the operation/features of the motor - that is what you get with the owners manual."

"Thanks for info. It has reall

"Thanks for info. It has really helped. I am going to order all manuals. In the mean time, what would be the part # for carberator needle and seat? And how about impellor only, and whole water pump kit. Also is this motor able to be converted to power tilt and trim? Thanks again for your wealth of knowledge. Bill (1971 50hp merc #3012248)"

"Bill, the idle needle part nu

"Bill, the idle needle part number is 1399-1713, the seat is pressed in and not a separate part from the carb body. There is also a spring that goes on the needle but is not available separately.

The impeller part number is 47-89983T. I can't seem to locate a Merc part number for the whole kit, but Andrew who runs this site sells a Sierra kit (part number 18-3507) which is quite extensive for impeller/seals/gaskets which sells for just over 37 bucks - a great price..."
