Spark Plug Question

Went to NAPA to pick up Cap, Rotor and Plugs...Champion manual listed RV12YC, which they did not have in stock. Cross referenced to NGK UR5, which I bought. Got home tonight and looked up my engine on NGK.com and they list BPR6FS, which appears to be a colder plug than the UR5. What gives?

BR6FS is the common plug used on all early chevy based engines. Use them you will not have any problems.

Any harm in running a hotter plug?

Choosing the spark plug heat range is a choice whether to keep the plug hot enough at idle to prevent fouling and cold enough at maximum power to prevent pre-ignition or knocking.

I would use the colder plug. You will be running under a load more than you will be sitting idle.

Putting it another way, running a too hot plug under severe loads can eat holes in pistons!

Autolite #24 with a .035" gap works for the old Crusader 270 1980. It is supposed to be a cross for the #'s listed in the previous posts.
