The current list says QL16V (or L16V ) which is a surface gap plug

The parts lists give QUL77V as the original (and UL77V as an alternative) also surface gapped

Those with Q are the inductively suppressed versions

I read thispost the oher day and thought there is nothing different about this electrical system than a 40 or 50hp and why the would use aux gapped plugs is beyond me.

As JWB says stick with L77JC4 at 030 thou much better choice.

"The use of the QL16V plugs on the 'commercials' have to do with service intervals and life time. Those engines mostly run under heavy load for a prolonged time. The surface gap plugs keeps a more or less constant 'gap' throughout the life time while a normal 'gap' plug needs an adjustment of gap after some 25hrs+. I've had QL16V plugs doing 200+ hours and still in order!
L/QL 77 plugs are due for change roughly after 50 hrs.
You loose some in idling on the surface gap plugs, but regain it under heavy load.
Going trolling, use the L/QL 77 plug, going speeding/skiing or whatever use the QL16V plug."
