Spark but no start. 1988 35hp 2-stroke

The engine has spark but will not start.

You should give a little more information than that, it could be a number of things unless you can help us narrow that down for you.

Think it might be the fuel filter or pump. It will start with starting fluid but will only run for a few seconds.

Will any fuel filter work with this engine or does it have to be the factory style one.

Any ideas? My 1985 (?) 35 HP does the exact same thing. I had it idling for a minute or so, then it stopped running. Still won't start/run even when using manual choke unless using starting fluid, then starts & dies out. Ran good last week.

Has fuel to filter.
