Oil alarm activated on 1996 15

Oil alarm activated on 1996 150 Mariner EFI when reservoir got low three trips ago. I immediately filled both reservoirs and now the alarm seems to have no pattern at all to its sparatic beeping. It seems very coincedential that the alarm never sounded prior to running low and now it won't quit. It may beep for about five seconds and then it may beep for 5 minutes. It may go an hour without beeping then it may only go 5 minutes. Very frustrating!!!

Hi there!

Try disconnecting battery terminals for at least 10 mins.

Could also be suspect level sensor.

Hope this helps!

Take your cap of the resivior

Take your cap of the resivior beside the engine head and make sure the float is NOT stuck. You may have to dunk it in some gas or spray some LPS solvent on the shaft to un-stick the float as that may be yr prob.

"i had the same problem,it was the cap gasket on the resevoir.it had fell down on the cap restraint.this allowed air to enter the tank off and on creating a crazy beeping from time to time"

So is it an easy fix or should it just be replaced?

"Personally, I would just dis-connect it. After all it only tells you when the tank is getting low, not if the system is working properly.

Then just be vigalent about topping off the oil each time before you take the motor out and carry a gallon or two spare on board.

Your tank of oil, when full, should last somewhere around 6 hours of run time - if you are going out for longer than that, just shut down and refill the oil.

That way you toast the motor if "YOU" forget. It will never fry because you were relying on a cheap component...."
