Sourcing ride-guide engine side linkages

Need to start over.----Find a used tilt tube off a newer motor.---Weld on some brackets.-----Mount it as high up using the 1/2" transom bolts.----Find a link to go back to center of the motor.----Confused ?----Look at any motor set up from 1980 and newer and see how it is done.

Two possible options I see . Change the vertical connection on the engine too horizontal
Make these steering cable mount on a heim or ball joint so it's flexible.

Why? This setup works full tilt both directions and no binding when engine is lifted.

I’m not saying you’re wrong I would just like to know.

Need to make repairs on engine side steering linkages. Odd couplers/connectors where attaches to engine. Also doesn’t seem to fit perfectly when tilting engine (stress on connection) any advice on finding replacement parts or upgrading would be appreciated.......
Sorry .

Yeah the original setup was not working. I built custom linkages and modified the mounting bracket. Everything seems to work fine now. No binding, no extreme angles. I linked to photos of the new setup. Wanted some input from anyone with more experience, in case I was missing something. This is my first boat.

Here’s the link to the new stuff.

See post #2-----Going that way is so much simpler and very reliable.-----Just like newer motors that use the tilt tube.----Post #2 suggests installing a tilt tube very close to the to the pivot point.----Simple in my opinion.

Ah. I see what you’re saying now. The tilt tube is mounted under the outboard and tilts with the engine. Eliminating the tilt angles altogether. That does seem much simpler in its function, but would certainly require some design creativity.

I wonder if I could use the existing cable and tube. Would a new one integrate with the ride-guide steering? I really like the vintage look and cool function.

If I must replace the old tube, what specs are most important when looking for a replacement? Probably total cable length and shaft throw length?

Thanks for the help fellas.

PS: manual says I need minimum 1 (or maybe it was 2) PSI of fuel pressure to carb. I installed a 0-15 psi in line gauge between the fuel pump and carb, but I’m not getting any pressure reading on the gauge when engine is at idle.

Rebuild fuel pump? I inspected the pump and according to the manual, it appears to be in working condition. Although the black and white manual photos make things somewhat ambiguous.
