The rope gasket will generally go second time around.
Use a light coating of sealant in both the groove and on the gasket itself and where it joins at the top.
If you want to replace it, it should be OEM available.
The six fat O-rings are an OEM item only and are stupidly expensive. But you need them.
Make sure that the six bores in the transom are chamfered.
These need to be squeezed down around the carriage bolt shanks...... sort of like an old outdoor faucet packing gland.
Use 3M 42000 or ??? on these, and use a liberal amount of sealant.
The carriage head does not need to be sealed.... all sealing occurs at the actual shank of the bolts.
You also need to replace at lest one of the rubber cushion rings.... and this is always the inboard ring.
The inboard ring does the actual flywheel-cover-to-transom-shield sealing.
If you don't replace this, you run the risk of a leak here.
Read up on and see the tips on triangulation when initially adjusting the front engine mounts.
As long as we're talking, the shift cable sheathe is another conern.
This rubber hose is crimped onto its fitting, and the crimp sleeves become rusty and loose their grip.
The sheathe (hose) looses resiliency as well..... and may eventually begin to leak.
Remove the sleeve.... cut into fresh material.... replace with the correct Euro Style SS band clamp.
Use a sealant if you want to.
Don't even think about removing the fitting from the shield...... work with what you have with the fitting in place.
