I am replacing all gaskets on

I am replacing all gaskets on my 7.5 hp gamefhisher and i am also replacing the piston rings. are there any suggestions you all should tell me or any other reccomend parts to replace. i was told if i replace the rings i have to replace the rod?? is this true?

"Depending on the amount of wear, there is likely a ridge worn in the top of the cylinder which generally must be removed. Additionally, the cylinder walls are normally honed at least to break the glaze. Failure to remove the ridge can cause the new rings to break. Failure to remove the glaze/ re-hone can cause a problem with the new rings seating properly. You only replace the rod if it needs it."
