Some help-please!

I have a 1984 powerhead on a 1978 150 Evinrude. I haven't done a compression check yet, loaned it out and hasn't come home. My son took boat out at last of summer and said it was turning up too high rpm and was getting an alarm. My understanding from him,was boat was not moving at speed it should for rpms. I assumed it was the prop and got a new one. Was getting boat ready for spring and noticed that one bank of plugs looked new and other bank looked as it should , oily and dark. Does this motor have and alarm for over revs? Does these clean plugs suggest bad head gasket? Just talked to son and he said alarm was like beep-beep-beep.What does this alarm mean? Thanks for any insight.

Continuous / Steady horn = Overheat (Two sensors one on each head - tan wire. You can check these, 1 at a time, by taking each connector apart and grounding them to the block with the motor OFF, but ignition key ON - you should hear the constant tone)

Constant Beep - Beep - Beep = No Oil (Wire connector to VRO)

Beep, Beep, Beep for 10 seconds, then Beep every 30 to 40 seconds = Low Oil(Check remote tank and/or 2 wire connector between remote tank and motor. You can also troubleshoot this sensor by removing oil pickup and pulling the pickup up out of the oil - the float sensor should go off. Also use a turkey baster to make sure there is no water on bottom of oil tank, or fill into another container to check)

Constant / Steady horn @ >= 3/4 throttle = Lean Fuel Condition (This will also sound at much lower throttle/RPM settings if you try to accelerate when a lean condition exists - 2 wire connector on Vacuum switch)

Steady beep would be overheat.-------------Beep----Beep ----beep ------would be something to do with VRO ( if equipped ) lack of oil warning.------Best to check this all out before firing it up again.----Check for spark on all 6 cylinders.-------1984 motors were not factory equipped with the S.L.O.W. system.

there is no alarm to over rev to my knowledge...i would check compression on this engine before i did anything else...

Did not have oil tank on my first outboard powerhead. This powerhead had vro but has been bypassed so i mix oil in gas. Thanks.

Checked compression with gauge 0f questionable working order. All cylinder 100 psi. Checked spark, all can jump 7/16 gap. Any idea why one bank of spark plugs looked new and other side looked used?

Clean sparkplugs would suggest no spark from 3 coils on that side.------Not likely that the head gasket is blown accross 3 cylinders.-----Not likely that you have 3 plugged carburetors on one side only.-------More inspection and testing needs to be done.

I guess spark could had quit when my son took it out at end of summer, but today it had good spark both sides. Is it possible that when it heats up , for spark to quit. If so what could cause this?
