we are trying to fix a issue. 2005 496 mercruiser io - problem is at 2k or above after a short travel or rev at dock solid alarm and limp mode.

we have put new oem water pump back on as running stainless and told may be issue no resolution

exhaust manifolds are relatively new and run about 110 degrees

last year it would happen shut off and start again and may not happen rest of the day and now about every minute or so ans engine temp is around 150

no error on computer - diacom marine

Look on the shift plate to see if there is a in-gear switch
If one is there disconnect the switch after motor is started

With a 496 CI engine it has to be a Bravo.

Limp mode would typically (not always) be caused by a sensor input telling the computer something is out of specification. I am also assuming this is EFI so it would be best to get this scanned to see if or which sensor is sending the fault to computer. It could be as simple as a temp SWITCH which is not sending the correct info due to it being faulty (it sees hi temp when engine is actually at the correct running temp).

If the ECU is going into 'limp' mode then there has to be an input that is causing it....and the diacom software should show it...

The only exception I can imagine is if the diacom software doesn't support that specific ECU - then the diacom s/w needs to be updated...
