"out fishing last night, been

"out fishing last night, been out a few times so far, but first night run. Before I left, checked all the lights, they were fine. Heading out, hooked up depth finder and gps, both did nothing. later in the evening, put on the nav lights, nothing. after checking everything, my backup bilge is also down. WTF... electic is my weakness, but, did the obvoius, checked individual connections, checked the fuse panel, checked the battery connections,
plenty of other electric items work fine, anchor light, deck lights, dash lights, main bilge is fine.
only thing done recently was install new batteries. But, again, nav lights worked before I left. Knowing not much else, my next plan is to try and trace out all the wires, and look for a broken or corroded connection."

With so many things not workin

With so many things not working I would check the ground terminal where it is common to your accessories. Also sometimes power and ground wires for accessories where they were once connected at the batteries forget to be reconnected when replacing a battery.

"Ej makes a great point. IF yo

"Ej makes a great point. IF you have a multi-meter, set it for DC Voltage and start looking for voltage or set it to OHMS and check fuses.
They are cheap enough and will likely make a good addition to the vessel."

"weather pending, tomorrow aft

"weather pending, tomorrow afternoon i'll give it a go, I'll keep you posted...."

"Well, disconnected everything

"Well, disconnected everything, reconnected everything, found a couple of extra wires that must have powered old accessories, didnt reconnect those. THEN, found that front nav lights blew a bulb, and the stern light had a corroded connection. Everything seems to work, , have no clue why the other electonics failed, must have been a loose connections somewhere, fixed now....."

Corrosion can be an exhaustive

Corrosion can be an exhaustive thing in finding bad connections. I had them all over as "X" amount of previous owners failed to consider the effects of their "modifications" or "extensions" of wires they had butt spliced in one way or another.

New and STRICT assembly rules gave me a very nice secure wiring system...It ain't the easiest thing I have ever done but worth it tremendously

"My dad and I just bought a 19

"My dad and I just bought a 1969 Chris Craft Commander. It seems as though most of the connections for the DC accessories are eityher twisted together OR butt connected. I am a Harley Davidson Tech by trade, and used to work on boats for a living. In my mind the only SURE connection is a soldered and shrink tubed connection. I put next weekend (and a half a spool of solder) aside for this project. My point? Check ALL connection POINTS any that are even questionable, SOLDER, much, much less chance for failure!"
