need help i have a 1990 200xri

need help i have a 1990 200xri oil & fuel injected 200 mercury is there a way to adjust or clean the oil injection system as it smokes excessively when started but clears after 5mins if it has not been run for 2-3 wks. Is this just normal?

Thanks bandit could you please tell what a check valve looks like & where to find it & can i repair it myself i am great with cars but am new to outboards have done basics impeller & plugs. i am in australia last time i had work done was ripped off. Have a great day

"Kevin, That doesn't sound too bad. You need to remember that when you are not using the motor, the gasoline will evaporate, leaving the oil behind. You will therefore see more smoke upon startup. In addition, when you cold start the engine burns a richer mixture for a while. the richer mixture also contains more oil, as well as gasoline."

Look for the check valve on th

Look for the check valve on the VST (fuel control) At the bottom of that unit there is a fitting that the oil line from that pump (clear tube) connects to the fuel system. That is the piece that goes bad. Every one does it.

21-42481 should be the part # you need.
