"At least I think that's what it's called. It's a 1989 with dual Alpha One's and 5.0 Merc engines. I took it out and was running it fairly hard when smoke came bellowing out of the engine compartment after just a couple of minutes. At first, I thought it was the shift cable or steering hose up against the exhaust manifold. Upon further examination, it was the actual rubber coupling from the riser that was smoking hot. The engine itself seemed to be running alright and did not even seem hot.
I assume that water from the engine is used to keep this cool. If there is no water coming in, then why is the engine not overheating? Also, it was only the starboard side of the starboard engine that was hot. The port side exhaust seemed to be functioning normally. Is there some common problem here that I shout look at before I start taking things apart?"
