Smoke from air intake

I have a 115 four stroke. I’m getting smoke comming out of my air intake. Can any one point me in the right direction as to what is wrong. Thanks.

Engine running? Does not make sense. Air coming in the intake should take any smoke with it into the motor.

How do u know are u running motor with cowling off ?
