Smartcraft trim problem 2006 115 hp

Hello, I'm a long time reader here but never posted a question before. I have a 2006 Opti 115 with the SC1000 Smartcraft Tach installed. The problem I'm having is that the SC1000 shows Trim Fault. I have gone through the Calibration screen multiple times. I know the engine came with a trim sensor because I can see it and the wires going up into the engine. But what I'm not sure is if the wires are hooked up inside the engine or if the sensor that comes on the engine is for just a gauge and I need a Smartcraft trim sensor??? Where would the wires be around the controls if I were just going to use the existing sensor for a normal trim gauge? Thanks for any help.

I guess I should have added a few more details. I purchased this engine new and installed the SC1000 on the boat myself about a month after I got the boat. I never could get the trim screens to work so I just disabled them in the setup. Now I am wanting to get it working and am revisiting the problem. All of the other aspects of the gauge work just fine.
