I have a problem with my mercury smartcraft tach gauge. When I plug the gauge in to my engine it lights up, but after a while it displays ”engine data bus”. Reading about this on the Internet I know that it means that there’s no connection to the engine. My gauge is capable of displaying the voltage but that’s it. Everything else doesn’t seem to work. I have checked everything – the blue data cable, the connections and the fuse in the engine. Everything seems fine, but the tach gauge still doesn’t work. I’m starting to think I maybe have bought the wrong data cable? Is that possible?
Here are some specs regarding the hardware:
Tach gauge: VDO Tach (with the white backplate) Mercury no. : 79-859-019-02-065-401 Version 2.8
Blue Data cable: 84-879968A10 RevB
Engine: Mercury 40 hp efi 2008
