I have an 2003 merc 425 w/ sma

I have an 2003 merc 425 w/ smartcraft system. Today an alarm went off at 3200 rpm that indicated a fuel injector was open and not functioning. The alarm history screen read "FINO8 OPEN" which I would assume would indicate the problem is the injector for cylinder # 8. Is it OK to operate the boat with this problem? I took it easy getting it back to the dock but it runs ok - just a bit rough. My mechanic is at another harbor about 5 miles away.

Tried to edit my post but it would not allow it...The engine is 496/ 420hp....not 425.
 
Check the plug to all injector

Check the plug to all injectors; one may have come off or have an iffy connection. Otherwise it sounds like the injector may be open circuit and therefore shot. Should be replaced as soon as you can.
