Small tube

I have a 2000 Honda 75 hp outboard. Yesteday I tilted motor up and noticed s small black plastic tube sticking up on the front side of the lower unit. Its hidden in the tilt mechanism when motor is tilted down in the running position. This tube is about 1/4 inch in size and has a small plastic junction fitting that looks like it should conncect to another plastic tube that would go up into the engine. But I can't find any tube for it to fit in to. Nor can I find anywhere on the underside of the engine where another tube should go. Motor runs fine and I've noticed no over-heating problems. We ran it extinsively this past weekend. Just don't know what this tube may be for or where its supposed to connect. Thanks for any help!

You are right! It is meant to connect to a similar tube up to a speedometer.

It is a tube from the pitot tube on the lower unit.

If you do want to add a speedometer, you will have to cut off about 1/16" of the end to expose the hole in it. Then you connect it to a similar tube up to the speedometer.

If you have a speedometer, it may already be connected to a different pitot tube on the back of your boat.

Thanks! Now that you mentioned the speedometer, I recall reading about this tube, some time ago. Hate these "senior moments"...they're happening more and more frequently!
