i have an 82 chrysler outboard. The boat starts great idles fine. At higher speeds the boat seems to be sluggish. It still planes but slower. Twice i was crusing along and it felt like a powerband kicked in and the boat ran real good and noticably faster. What can i do to the engine to get it to run like it should? Thank you.

I had a '57 Scotts-McColloch 75 that acted the same. I cleaned out the carbs and the lack of power went away. Not saying thats your issue. Check all your fuel delivery components.
Also, with the hood off start it at night and look for any electrical arcing.

I had a 45 HP Chrysler once that did the same thing, it only opened up to full throttle about 3 times the whole time I had it.Someone told me they were designed to not open fully until it reached a certain RPM or speed or some other BS, but I do remember that when it kicked in it seemed to run about 10mph faster. good luck

Hoots, did you issue ever go away? That sound like the issue. However, the owner before me said that it had run fine for a few years that he had it. Then it started having its issue. Thanks for the replies guys.
